Street
Children
SIDUR works in Hyderabad and Secunderabad cities
in 21 points where street children exist. There are about 30,000
street children in the twin cities. Health-related problems such
as sickness and injuries are everyday affairs for them, alongside
made worse by sexual abuse, drug addiction and violence by police
officials.SIDUR street children project envisages three main components.
 Rehabilitation
 Repatriation
 Prevention
and Control of HIV/AIDS
INTERVENTION TECHNIQUE:
SIDUR realizes that it is not feasible to move all the children/youth
on the streets to a location where services are available; hence
activating street presence has become an important component of
the project.
SIDUR considers direct intervention at the street level to be
essential through street educators. Through gradual yet consistent
contact, the Street Educator instills confidence in the street
child that he will be supported in his effort to rebuild his life.
Contact points are set up at places wherever street youth are
located in large numbers - such as bus stands, markets, railway
stations, parking lots, small hotels, slums etc.
Friendship becomes the basis for regular contact, follow-up and
support.
The support could involve counseling, recommendations,
job placements, home contacts, skills up-gradation, continuing
education, employment training, savings, hospital care, and advocacy.
Mainstreaming them and giving back their childhood
and youth and bring them back to life becomes the ultimate goal.
